  • My name is Alex Irwin and have embarked on a journey into the world of Photography, with sports being one of my major interests There have always been cameras in the house and from a young age I have been using them; that together with my sporting interests was the first step. I am a keen sailor and sportsman and this gives me a great insight and the ability to capture action and motion at its best.
  • My first inspiration came when I was fortunate to attend the iconic 2008 Wimbledon final between Federer & Nadal; I even sold the images! Since leaving college in 2010 and being very mindful of the need for professional training I have been involved with a top studio in the West Country; Bang Wallop, who created a training programme for me, covering all different aspects of photography such as landscapes, portraits, interiors, and action. I have worked with Landscape photographer David Clapp as I strive to bring sport and the landscape together. My experience ranges from the local sailing club through the America’s Cup World Series to the world’s largest sailing regatta on the Isle of Wight; Cowes Week where I have taken photos since 2010.
  • It is important to me to have a varied portfolio and in this Jubilee Year I was commissioned to cover the biggest event being the Queens Diamond Jubilee pageant on the River Thames, this was truly an amazing sight and for me looking down on the boats from the top of a 120ft mast was a first. Also over the last year I have been involved with the GB White Water Canoe & Kayaking team and have been a regular visitor to the Olympic centre, as a result of this work I was invited to photograph the Canoe Slalom World Cup in Cardiff in June. During the summer I was commissioned by the charity, Ability Net; to photograph there awards programme, which was named Tech4Goods and was launched at the BT Tower in London as you can probably imagine the views where sensational. The award ceremony was subsequently held at the BT Centre at St Pauls.
  • I truly believe that the medium of still images remains one of the most powerful.
